Jake Burkons’ trip to the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee)

Jake (Jacob) Burkons at the Kinneret in Israel

Here I am getting ready to dip my toes into the Sea of Galilee, or as it is called in Israel the Kinneret.

Fun fact#1 - The Sea of Galilee is not actually a sea. It is a freshwater lake!

Fun Fact#2 - Not only is it a freshwater lake, it is the lowest freshwater lake (and the second lowest lake period) in the world!

Not so fun fact: due to drought and other factors, the water level of the Kinneret has been dropping. But like so many things in Israel, challenges have led to innovation. Just recently, Israel began pumping desalinated water from the Mediterranean into the Kinneret to raise the water level. Israel has become a world leader in exporting desalination technology throughout the world, and this is just one more step in the desalination innovation process.

Enough about science, the Kinneret has a ton of fun from huge inflatable optical courses to speedboating to, my favorite, fishing (check out my fishing page here)!
